Fair Highlights

We are delighted to have international textile artist Rosie James from the UK joining us in Wollongong.

Rosie James is a Textile Artist living and working in Kent, UK. She has a BA Hons Textiles degree from Surrey Institute of Art and Design and an MA in Textiles from Goldsmith College London. Her work involves drawing in thread using the sewing machine but also includes screen-printing and appliquéd fabrics. Rosie has exhibited her work all over the world and has large-scale pieces in hotels and museums in the UK and the USA. She has also published a book called “Stitch Draw” which illustrates and demonstrates her techniques. And you can join Rosie in special one day classes!

ABOUT THE CLASS

Learn to Draw with your Sewing Machine with tutor Rosie James

Fee: $155 includes entry to the fair

Time: One day classes: 10.15am to 3.45pm (5 hour class duration)

Date: Friday March 27 or Saturday March 28

In this technique class you will learn how to transfer an image from a photograph onto cloth, then how to stitch that image using the sewing machine to give a realistic but artistic representation of the image. Also explore adding colour to your piece using scraps of printed cloth and Bondaweb (Vliesofix). You will finish the day with a stitched drawing complete with coloured sections. There’ll be plenty of photos to work from, mostly from fashion magazines or books. You are welcome to bring any photos you would like to use so you have a personal image; they must be A4 size.

Students bring: 1 metre white cotton fabric, some small fabric scraps, black thread, Bondaweb (Vliesofix) (at least A4 in size), baking paper, machine embroidery hoop, tissue paper, pencils, small scissors, general sewing supplies. Sewing machine which does free motion embroidery and a free machine (darning) foot.
